Important notes for our air cartridges

Important notes
for our air cartridges

Weihrauch air rifles and air pistols stand for precision, quality and control – exactly what matters in the sport of shooting. We use different types of air cartridges for our PCP products. The HW 100, HW 101, HW 110 and HW 44 models use a stainless steel air cartridge. The HW 100 X model, launched in 2025, is fitted with an aluminium cartridge.

Information about service life

The air cylinders used in our Weihrauch pre-charged pneumatic (PCP) airguns (models: HW 100, HW 101, HW 110, HW 44 and HW 100 X) are subject to the applicable pressure vessel regulations but do not require periodic approval or certification (e.g. TÜV or similar). The manufacturer is responsible for ensuring the safety of the compressed air cylinders.

As part of this responsibility, the service life of the air cylinders has been limited to 10 years, provided they are used properly and for their intended purpose. The cylinder is marked with both the inspection date and the expiry date of the 10-year service life. Once this period has expired, the cylinder must no longer be used for safety reasons. It should be safely depressurized and must not be refilled. This also applies to cylinders that are leaking or damaged. Any applicable national regulations must also be observed and remain unaffected by these requirements.

If a compressed air cylinder is used for longer than 10 years, Weihrauch can no longer guarantee its safety. The maximum service life must not be exceeded. During normal use, repeated filling and emptying of the cylinder places significant cyclic stress on the material. The cylinder design and specified service life have been determined with these stresses in mind in order to ensure the highest possible level of safety.

This applies in particular to the air cylinder of the HW 100 X, which is manufactured from aluminium.

For the HW 100, HW 101, HW 110 and HW 44, the cylinder tube is manufactured from stainless steel. These steel cylinders may, after 10 years, undergo a one-time requalification inspection performed by the manufacturer. If the cylinder passes this inspection, its service life may be extended by an additional 10 years, resulting in a maximum total service life of 20 years. For example, if an 11-year-old cylinder passes the inspection, its service life will be extended by a further 9 years. Steel cylinders that are 20 years old or older cannot have their service life extended by any further periodic inspection. After the service life has expired, the cylinder must no longer be used and must be safely depressurized. This mandatory requalification inspection can only be carried out by Weihrauch at our factory.

The requalification inspection and any resulting extension of the service life apply only to the steel cylinder tube.

Information about use / utilisation

Before each use, the compressed air cylinder must be inspected for cracks. If cracks or any similar damage are found, the cylinder must be depressurized immediately and returned to Weihrauch for inspection. The surface of the compressed air cylinder must not be modified in any way. In particular, no engraving, machining, grinding or other abrasive processes may be carried out, as these may damage the pressure vessel, create a safety hazard, cause sudden cylinder failure and/or result in personal injury.

Protect the cylinder from external impact at all times, such as dropping or similar mechanical damage.

Never attempt to open a cylinder or modify it mechanically in any way. The valve, pressure gauge and all cylinder components may only be installed or removed by the manufacturer.

Each shooter is solely responsible for the condition and safe use of their compressed air cylinder. Cylinders whose service life of 10 years, or 20 years (where applicable following successful requalification), has expired must no longer be used. Weihrauch expressly points out that any use beyond these periods is entirely at the user’s own risk. Safety can no longer be guaranteed and there may be a risk of serious injury.

Information about original parts and spare parts

Warning! Only genuine Weihrauch air cylinders may be used: Maximum 200 bar for models HW 100, HW 101, HW 110 and HW 44 and maximum 250 bar for the HW 100 X.

Always follow the instructions in the operating manual. Any modifications or repairs to the cylinders may only be carried out by the manufacturer using genuine Weihrauch replacement parts. Failure to comply with these requirements will void all liability and warranty claims. Weihrauch accepts no liability for damage of any kind resulting from modifications, conversions, installation of non-genuine Weihrauch components, or failure to observe the instructions and warnings contained in the operating manual.

If you require a new compressed air cylinder, please contact your authorized Weihrauch dealer. Unfortunately, direct sales from the factory are not possible. Please provide us with your address and we will be happy to assist you in locating an authorized dealer near you.

Please ensure that all of the above instructions are strictly observed.

Weihrauch rejects any claims for compensation arising from failure to comply with the above information.
